RONSTAN Course Racing- July 6, 2003
Report from me- Z: I know that I didn't win this race
but I should have at least grabbed 1 bullet. And I would have if only I
were not sleeping during Race 1. The thought of a gold medal or maybe even
a small trophy or a nice Ronstan jacket must have distracted me as I approached
the leeward mark with Chris behind me in second place a good 100yards back.
There was no way I would loose this race. I could fall on this jibe and
still have time to waterstart and win. Well guess what happened next. The
dope I call myself rounded that infernal leeward mark the WRONG WAY! as
Chris yelled to me as I was laying out my layline to the finish. It's a
good thing I have no confidence or else I would have kept going. Thanks
Chris for helping me get 4th and you're welcome for the bullet. Ironically
enough, if I would have won that race, than Chris would have placed second.
As for me, it would have made no difference. I think I still get that jacket.
For those of you who are wondering how I got so far ahead, well, I suppose
it was the port start or maybe the 70Techtonics Mirage that I dug out of
the garbage that morning. I still can't figure out why more of you didn't
try port starts. Was I the only one to blow up at the windward mark during
the 5th race? Your comments please.
REPORT
FROM US1: This was one exciting weekend of racing. With
low point scoring, there was no room for error. Even after all the races
were finished, it was not obvious who won. A three way tie in points ensued
for first place between Chris, Bill, and Steve. Thanks Jean for the dyslexia
on the leeward mark. This regatta is a great example of how the fleet is
improving and getting closer, I think I lost four places on a bad jibe in
one race. The excitement keeps us coming back for more..
Special thanks to RONSTAN for supporting this event once again. Congratulations to all who competed. It is always an accomplishment.
